—-—-♦ ■ (Own Correspondent). The members of the Court Roxburgh A.O.F. held a church parade on Sunday evening last to the Presbyterian Church. Fruit agents are already canvassing for supplies of fruit during the coming season and representatives of two Dunedin firms were in the district during the past week. The cartage to Bdievale this season will be considerably expedited by the assistance of motors, and their performance on the roads is being looked forward to with keen interest,
The latest in orchard lorries has just been built by Messrs Dunn and Redding, of Balclutha, to the order of Waigth and Sons, of Warrenheip Gardens. The lorry, which will be used for carting the fruit as it is picked from the orchard to the packing shed, is so constructed that it can turn in its own space. A trial was held in the purchasers' orchard a few days ago and it was driven round and round a tree in the centre of the garden with the greatest of ease. During the winter months a dancing class under the control of Mr W. Kinaston has been holding weekly practices, and on Tuesday evening last the members closed the season with an exteusion night. There was a large attendance of members and friends and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Ou Wednesday, 3rd inst., the Borough Oouncil will take a poll of latepayers ou the question of raising a loan of £IOOO for the proposed water and lightiug scheme. The cost of laying a pipe line of new 18in pipes will be £675 and the increasing of the water supply by bringing in an additional two heads from an adj tcent creek is estimated at £34, wtncn mikes the cost of the water scheme £709. The estimated cost of the electric lighting plant is £3Bl. This provides 13 32-c.p. lamps for street lighting, a suitable and connections for about 30 consumers. Tue total outlay will be £IO9O. Tne lighting scheme has been carefully worked out and the council is coufi Jent it will be self-supporting. If the propjsal is carried Roxburgh will in dua time be one of the best equipped boroughs in the goldiields, and as it is not considered that the striking of a special rate will be necessary, ratepayers will be possessed of modern facilities in water and lighting without an increase of rates.
