Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council, held on Monday evening last, was 'attended by Crs Marsliu, Cameron, Ryan, Gregg, Ash worth, Williams. En the absence of the mayor Cr Marsliu was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting and two specials were read and continued. Outward correspondence was read and approved, and inward correspondence read and dealt with as follows :—■ The secretary of tne bowling club applied for a J-inch service on to the club's greeu. —Two half-inch .services were granted, the council being adverse to departing from the customary procedure formerly adopted. . Thomas Ja.dcson applied for a service from the to.vu race extending over three months.—As applicant was not prepared to accept the service on the usual conditions the council declined the application. James Halpiu applied for a service from the towu race. —Granted on usual conditions. John Werner applied for a IA-inch service from the town race, aud personally appeared in support of his application. The chair explained that the council had adopted a rule of only grautiug inch services from the race. After consideration a 1-iuch service was granted at the usual rental. The county clerk wrote re supplies to Chinamen. —-The clerk had replied to same. G. llauuay applied for one month's leave of absence at Christmas.—Granted on full pay, councillors making eulogistic reference to the valuable services rendered by Mr Hauuay since he entered their employ. James Kalpiu applied for extra payment for cutting the double row of trees in the Rec.—After considerable discussion the application was refused. ; Mr W.M.\ Talboys was appointed to represent the council at the annual meeting of the Otago Benevolent Institution, and the mayor of Roxburgh at the annual meeting of the Charitable Aid Board. Cr Marsliu reported that the dayman had the foundation for the dam wall well advanced. He had also sent a man out to turn in the C.iatto Creek water. The clerk was instructed to notify residents in the Manuherikia Valley that all arrears must be paid at once otherwise proceedings for recovery would be taken. It was agreed to rent Mr Geo. Campbell a few liues of piping at 2s per week. The alteration in the time-table of the Otago Central train was brought forward by Cr Ashworth, who moved that the council enter a strong protest against such alteration.—Seconded by Cr Gregg and carried. The couucil then rose.
