MINING NEWS.

Au examination for dredgeinasters' ccrtiticites commenced in DuneJin yesterday. Only oue 01 two from this district aic presenting themselves for examination. We direct attention to the advt. in this issue regarding the sale of the ItichJale dredge, near Palmerstou, which is to be offered by public auction on February 26th by Messrs Park, lieynolds and Co. The dredge is au up-to-date machine, and can be easily dismantled, and i» within a short distance of the railway. See advt. Bath the Loue Star and Tuohy's Creek (late Lafrancbi's) dredges are (says the Lake County Press) working steadily in the Cardroua river. The Lone Star Co., the recent purchasers of Sasse's dredge, have not as yet utilised this dredge in the valley, tut will probably do so in the near future. The Otago and Southland Gold Dredging Industrial Union of Employers met last week and decided to form a syndicate to purchase and dispose of the gold won by dredging. A saving of Is per ounce is said to have been made by one company by forwarding gold direct to the Sydney Mint. At the end of 1905 the Alexandra Load Company owed .£B4l 17s lid, against which there was £428 10s 3d cash in the bank. The gold won during the year was 6470z, valued at £2506 3s 9d, and the expenditure was £3IBB 12s, so that operations were carried on at a loss. There were, however, last year many circumstances which handicapped the company, as much of the work done was in the nature of dead work to allow the dredge to make a fair start on new and rather difficult ground. The directors of the 2f ew Fourteenmile Beach Company have given up the idea of having the dredge driven by water power with electric transmission. The electrical plant, pipe line, and fluming have been sold, the sum realised being £269 17s. The company's annual leport for the half-year ended December 31st last shows that 6620z lOdwt gold was won, its value being £2,579 17s, and out of this a sum of £1,198 5s was paid in dividends, equal to 5s per share. At the end of " last year the company had £2,166 3i 2d on deposit (including interest accrued), and a credit balance of £347 19s 4J at current account. Against this £62 15s lOd was owed to sundry creditors, and £152 15s 6d was the amount of Dacome Tax accrued. The dredge has been shifted to where work will be began as soon as the river permits, and meanwhile repairs are in progress.
