FROST FOLLOWS RAIN
Following 29 points of most welcome rain in Ashburton overnight, the heaviest frost for November since 1946 was experienced this morning. Although the reading this morning was 6 degrees, by some freakish factor no damage to gardens has been reported. The 1946 reading was 6.8 degrees and the previous heaviest was in November 1940 when 7.5 degrees were registered. Readings taken at 9 a.m. to-day were: Maximum thermometer 57.2, minimum 34.2, earth 57.2. The barometer reading was 29.65 inches. There were 3.25 hours of sunshine yesterday.
