END-OF-SEASON BALL To mai’k the closing of a very successful season the Hinds Young People’s Club recently held a fancy dress and hard-up ball in the Centennial Hall. Costumes were of a very high standai'd, and the judges had a difficult task in deciding the prize winners. The following were the awards: Best pair, Mr and Mrs S. Tarbotton (period costumes); best lady, Dorothy McKeage: best man, Mrs R. Small (boy’s period suit); most humoi’ous character, Miss N. Tilson (bumble bee); most original, Miss L. Dixon (old time music); best hard-up woman, Miss Judith Dell; best lxai'd-up man, Mrs J. Sowden (swagger) ; best boy’s costume, Master D. Good; best girl’s costume, Miss N. Howden.
The judges were Mesdames Fisher and McKenzie and Miss Ambler. The master of ceremonies was Mr R. Small and music was supplied by Bartram’s orchestra.
After Mr Fisher had spoken on behalf of members of the Y.P.C. Miss L. Holland presented Mr Small with a gift in recognition of his services to the club as leader for the past two years.
