ANNOYED HIKER
MISTAKEN FOR ESCAPED MURDERER (P.A.) BLENHEIM, This Day. There is a very annoyed hitchhiker on his way to Motueka—if he is not there by now. From remarks he made at Havelock yesterday it seems that he lias been stopped not once but several times to establish his identity. His appearance apparently closely resembles that of Cecil Robert Gurr Otto, the convicted murderer who escaped from Burwood Hospital 10 days ago and who is still at large. ■At 5 a.m. yesterday a man resembling Otto was reported walking along the beach. Three hours later a, man answering the description given from Kaikoura was seen in /Blenheim by two women. At 10 a.m. yesterday Constable Graham of Havelock stopped the same man who, on being questioned, said: “I know who you think I am, but I’m not.” He had had no difficulty in establishing his identity.
The police are satisfied that this man is the one who aroused suspicion at Kaikoura.
