PICNIC MATCH FOR M.C.C.

TOURISTS DISMISSED FOR 274 LISMORE, Nov. 20. The thriving cricket-loving town of Lismore, in the heart of a rich dairying and sugar cane district, declared a holiday to-day for the match between the English cricketers and Northern New South Wales team. Many spectators arrived in the morning with hampers to spend a pleasant day at the ground nestling in the hills just outside the town, and even members of the overworked press party were able to sip beer as they viewed the play. The wicket oil which Simpson and Sheppard batted in the morning, was slow and easy, and the oval, which had been subjected to five inches of rain in the last fortnight, was so thickly grassed that only the strongest hits reached the boundary. Both openers stuck together until after lunch, when Sheppard went for 52 and Simpson for 66. Parkhouse batted attractively in making 23, and Mclntyre was run out when he and Dewes found themselves at the same end after a misunderstanding in calling for a second run. At tea Dewes was 47 and the score four for 217. Brown was unlucky to lose his wicket to a questionable leg-before decision, and Dewes had no sooner reached 50 (four fours) when he, too, was back in the pavilion. Bailey also looked astonished when he was given out leg before, and Evans was distracted by a dog and clean bowled^. The innings ended at 5.35 p.m. with the score at 274. The country team at stumps had lost one wicket for eix. Scores: —. M.C.C.
