WINNERS SECURE POSSIBLE Two excellent performances were put up by the senior and junior boys’ athletic champions at the Ashburton High School. The championships were finalised this week, and the winners were B. Cameron (senior) and Ray Petrie (junior), while Cameron also won the field events championships. Both these runners secured 25 Joints, the possible in their respective sections, and Cameron broke one school record. In a special attempt at the hop, step, and jump record he easily beat the existing record of 40 feet 4J inches established by T. Kennedy in 1939, by jumping 41 feet 8 inches. In the senior championship, N. Evans and G. Willoughby were second equal to Cameron, and the placings will be finalised when the annual cross-country event is run later in the year. Willoughby, with 14 points, was also runner-up to Cameron in the field events’ championship, Cameron securing 18 points. R. Calderwood was run-ner-up in the junior championship.
