YOUNG FARMERS' VISIT
WELCOME EXTENDED A party of 29 young farmers from the Waikato district arrived in Ashburton by the express this morning. On arrival they were entertained at morning tea at the Foresters’ Hall, where an official welcome was extended them by Mr S. Watson (chairman of the Mid-Canterbury Young Farmers district), the Deputy-Mayor (Mr A. A. McDonald) and the deputychairman of the County Council (Mr J. Davidson). Mr McDonald, in extending a welcome to the visitors on behalf of the citizens, Remarked that a close relationship between the town and the country was essential for the welfare of the country as a whole, and stated that he believed such a relationship must exist in the Waikato district. The Mid-Canterbury and Waikato districts had in common a good deal of civic pride, portrayed in the) outlay of each district. , ■ Mr Davidson remarked that tne pioneers had done everything to get the best from their soil, and it was up to the farmers of to-day to do likeAfter morning tea the visitors Were allocated to their billets.
