Threat by Burmese Communists DISORDERS CONTINUE . (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright) (Rpc. 11.15) RANGOON, Mar. 27. Burma’s Communist Party, has announced that it will wreck tire proposed General. Election with “all the force at its command.” Political leaders believe that gaits, grenades, knives and dag- ~ gers will play a big part .in any election campaign. However, the present disorders may prevent the election for a. long time, although to-morrow was originally fixed as election day. Rebel forces control at least If of Burnra’s 25 political districts, and disturbances continue in all of them.. Under Burma’s new constitution, the election must take place within 18 months of independence from Britain, which was granted on January 4. 11)48. The Government has addl'd four members to its three-man election commission in an effort to meet the July 4 deadline for the poll. The commission will investigate tire extent of the disturbances, determine the number of districts affected and recommend whether the election will be held. If a further postponement is necessary, the constitution will have to be amended to allow the present Government, under Thakin Nu, to stay in office as a legal body.
