SHELVING OF PLANS
New Position in Israel EFFECT OF ABDULLAH’S MOVE IN.Z.P.A.—OopyrUcht). LONDON, January 9. “By invoking the British-Trans-jordan Treaty, King Abdullah’s Government has certainly caused the Israeli Government to shelve any military plans it may have prepared,” says the Tel-Aviv correspondent of “The Times.” “British residents in Isi’ael at present have not been affected by the latest developments.”
The naval correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that orders to be ready for sailing, if necessary at short notice, have been given to British Mediterranean Fleet units at Malta. The Israeli Cabinet, after a three hours’ meeting, sent Mr Aubrey Eban (Israeli representative at the United Nations) orders to launch what ;s termed “a counter-offensive to the British silent war on Israel,” says the British United Press correspondent in Tel-Aviv. The Jews will ask the Security Council to acknowledge Britain’s alleged belligerent status in view of the air incidents and in view of the British Government’s granting of the Transjordan Government’s request for British troops to be sent to Akaba.
