GOOD PROGRESS MADE
THE YACHT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Having made excellent progress on the run up the coast and through Cook Strait after her departure from Port Levy at S p.m. on Friday, the Miranda, which is en route to Sydney to compete in the trans-Tasman race, was 110 miles out in the Tasman west-north-west of New Plymouth at G a.m. today. &he was 220 miles from Wellington.
Two messages have heen received locally from the Miranda. The family of the owner-skipper, Mr Frank Dumergue, received a radio telegram this morning stating: "Sailing in the Tasman Sea; goo'd weather. Love." The other message received by* Mr D. E. L. Collett (Lyttelton) from his son, Bruce Collett, >the youngest member of the crew, read: “Well into the Tasman. All happy and well; progress good.’’ The Miranda is reported to have been clear of Cook Strait on Saturday afternoon and to have been well out then. A message received last evening stated that the Miranda had passed the Brothers Lighthouse and had logged 180 miles for the day. The weather in that section of the Tasman in which she was sailing was good. To-day reports received at the Meteorological Office at Wigram, indicate that the Miranda will be sailing into fairly good weather in the next day or so.
