' WELCOME TO LADY BADEN-POWELL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 1. Witli flags and banners waving more than bOO Girls Guides, Brownies and Rangers marched past the world I Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell, at a rally in the grounds of Parliament Buildings t’o-day. It was one of tire most colourful and animated scenes yet staged there. Before and after the ceremony Lady Baden-Powell went along the Guides and Brownies talking informally to them. Miss Ruth Herrick. Dominion Chief Commission for Girl Guides, accompanied Lady Baden-Powell. On her arrival the Provincial Commissioner, Mrs H. B. Turbott, welcomed the Chief Guide. After the march past a reception attended by 400 prominent ! guests was given in Lady BadenPowell’s honour by the Prime Min- . ister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and Mrs IT. Kemp. The gathering was in the large social room at Parliament i House. ( “Judging by the enthusiasm you | put into your work you are likely to j carry it on for a long time,” said the i Prime Minister to the Chief Guide. He referred to her 32 years’ association I witli the movement, the value of both Scouting and Guiding and the sense of permanent values it gave to youth so necessary to-day. Mr Fraser said he felt that Lady Baden-Powell’s mission would return 1 abundant results. The Girl Guide movement could [ now say it had proved its worth, statI ed the guest of honour. Both it and the I Scout movement were “the proved tools.” She rejoiced at the gallant and enthusiastic spirit of guiding in the Dominion.
