DAVE SANDS’ PROGRAMME

MANAGER’S STATEMENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 1. Tom Maguire, manager of the Australian champion boxer, Dave Sands, said to-day that Sands’s proposed fight in Napier on April 17 with Roy Stevens, New Zealand middle-weight champion, was off because of the races that afternoon and inability to secure a suitable hall that night. He was doubtful whether the return fight with Jackie Marr could'be arranged Auckland and, failing the bout in Auckland, Sands would return to Australia after the contest at Petone on April 10 with Don Mullett, the New Zealand heavy-weight champion. Marr will fight Darcy Hoffman, of Dunedin, in Auckland on April 26, according to the secretary of the Auckland Boxing Association (Mr Harold Watts). The bout will he over 10 rounds for a £3OO purse.
