Ashburton on Coast ONE WIN, ONE DRAW A drawn match against West Coast and a substantial victory over Buller was the record of the Ashburton * representative cricket team, which arrived home last evening.

In the first match, against West Coast at Greymouth, rain curtailed play, and only one innings each was completed. Coast, by steady batting

against accurate bowling, compiled 161. M. Wall sent down 15 overs and i took five for 57, while P. L. Zouch secured two for 29 in the same number of overs. W/ S. Ashworth took one for 36. Ashburton began fairly well, J. Doig (11), I. Gosnell (16 run out), W. S. Ashworth (13), A. Weir (15) and M. Wall (15) all showing form, but the remainder of the side collapsed and the final score was only 92.

Win Over Buller

Playing at Westport, Buller found the Ashburton bowling very troublesome and could make only 68 in the first innings. J. Doig (four for 18 in eight overs), C. J. Harper (two for 16 in nine overs), Wall (one for 14) and Ashworth (one for 12) took the wickets. Ashburton began badly, losing five for 29, but C. Robertson hit out very breezily and, mainly through his .56 (one six and nine fours), the total reached 112. J. Burton (11) was the only other to reach double, figures. In the second innings, Buller made 99, of which R. Marshall (opening bdt) made 59. Zouch (five for 25 in eight overs) and Harper (three for 27 in eight overs) took most of the wickets. After Ashburton had lost two wickets for 26, Ashworth and I. Griffiths quickly secured the required runs, to give Ashburton a win by eight wickets. The side continued batting and, at stumps, had 93 on for three wickets. Ashworth was 31 not out (including two sixes), while Griffiths was out for 24 (three fours). Robertson (14) and Wall (10) also reached double figures.
