DEATH AT SEA

VALUABLE BRITISH THOROUGHBRED ADELAIDE, March 31. Faroe, one of the most valuable thoroughbreds imported from Britain died at sea in spite of strenuous efforts to save him. He Avas bought by the Avell-knovvn Sydney breeder, Mr F. W. Hughes, for 17,000 guineas. Faroe Avas shipped from London in the Port Fairy which reached Port Adelaide on Sunday. He became ill a few hours after leaving England. Special lighting was rigged, hot blankets were provided in his stall, and members of the crew Avere in constant attendance. A post-mortem by the ship's surgeon showed that Faroe died of a strangulated hernia.
