NEW YORK, March 29,

The United Nations Palestine Commission has decided to proceed as rapidly as possible to create a provisional Jewish Government in Palestine.

In a letter to Mr Moshe Shertok, chief of the political department of the Jewish Agency, the commission said* it was obliged by the General Assembly’s resolution to take all possible steps to implement partition, and it intended to do so unless it received orders to the contrary from the Security Council. It warned the Jews, however, that the provisional government could exercise no authority until the British mandate ended on May 15. Meanwhile, it is learned that the United States will introduce two resolutions to the Security Council tomorrow. The first will call on the Arabs and Jews to send representatives to the Council to arrange a truce. The second will ask the Council to call a special meeting of the General Assembly as soon as possible to reconsider the Palestine problem. i > agreement sought MOVE BY HOLY SEE (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 30. Reuter’s Vatican City correspondent quotes an authoritative report that the Holy See. is trying to get all parties in Palestine to collaborate in an agreement guaranteeing equally the rights of Jews and Arabs. * The Holy See fears that the present grave situation may cause a catastrophe endangering holy places. DENIAL OF RUMOURS ANGLO-AMERICAN NEGOTIATIONS (Rec. 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. The diplomatic correspondent of -’“The Times,”- says that rumours that there had been negotiations between Britain and the United States for an alteration in the dates of the surrender of the Palestine mandate or the withdrawal of British troops are categorically denied in London. BRITISH WOMAN SHOT \ WORK OF JEWISH SNIPERS (Rec. 1.10) JERUSALEM, Mar. 30. Jewish snipers shot dead a British woman social worker who was returning in a car from visiting a hospital. An official statement quoting, an Arab nurse eye-witness, said the assailants fired shots at the car on the Bethlehem road. The woman shouted loudly that she was British. A further burst of fire followed, shattering the windscreen and riddling the' car with holes.

The statement , described the woman as a “well-known Government official.”
