THIEVES MAKE GOOD HAUL
Three Stafford Street Shops Entered SCOTTISH SOCIETY SUFFERS (P.A.) TIMARU, This Day. Thieves broke into three shops in Stafford Street North, Timaru, during the Easter week-end. More than AIOO worth of goods was taken from a sports and hardware shop belonging to Messrs Provan Bros, and AGO in cash and goods valued at ABS from a fish shop belonging to Mr J. 11. .Smail. The third shop entered suffered no loss of stock.
The three shops are adjoining on the eastern side of Stafford Street. The premises entered from which no goods were taken belonged to Mr S. A. Tyson, an electrician. Evidence of the fish-shop robbery was first discovered by Mr Small's assistant, Mr A. Niles, when he came to work on Saturday morning. 'Messrs Provan Brothers and Tyson did not discover that their premises had been broken into until they opened for business yesterday morning. The fish shop is also the office of the Timaru Scottish Society. A cupboard in which the society’s books, some equipment and cash were kept, was forced open. A bag containing AGO in cash was taken as well as 1500 cigarettes and sundry small articles belonging to the society. Sixty gold bars, which are for pipers’ uniforms and are valued at At Gs each, were removed.
