VERY OLD OFFENCE

ACCUSED PLEADS GUILTY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A plea of guilty to a • 34-year-old crime was entered by Oswald Fruish (57), storeman, in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Pie was charged with forging the signature of John O’Leary on a Post Office Savings Bank withdrawal receipt on April 10, 1924. Accused, in a written statement, said he had shared a room with O’Leary in Wellington about 25 years ago. Pie admitted taking his bank hook and presenting a withdrawal receipt for £4O, which he collected. Pie returned the book to O’Leary and left Wellington a few days later. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The Magistrate, Mr A. M. Goulding, remarking that as it was a very old offence, he saw no reason why bail should not be granted.
