MINERS RESUME

Heavy Losses Through Strike BOARD APPEAL IGNORED (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright). (Rec. 11.50) BRISBANE, This Day. An Australian-wide one-day strike by miners in. sympathy with the Queensland railway strikers is n>ow most unlikely. Queensland miners who resumed work to-day lost £0(1,000 in their 21day strike, and the State lcet the production of 144,000 tons of coal. Queensland miners rejected an appeal by their' Board of Management to continue the strike. Mr Rowley James’ appeal not to “buy into” the Queensland strike was widely supported by miners’ lodge secretaries on the northern fields. Yesterday New South Wales miners gave an unmistakable hint to the federation leaders by producing the greatest amount of coal since last March.

Efforts by a special mission of the Australasian Council of Trades Unions to mediate in Brisbane'have failed. The Communist member of Parliament, Fred Paterson, who was injured in the riot on March 17 has been discharged from hospital. His injuries were diagnosed by the hospital superintendent as concussion and lacerated scalp.
