PERFECT SUMMER’S DAY

Weather conditions similar to the middle of summer were experienced at Ashburton to-day, the sun shining from a practically cloudless sky and wind being almost completely absent. There was only .6 of an hour’s sunshine yesterday and two hours on Monday. The maximum temperature during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day was 57 degrees and the minimum was 39.2, compared with 62 and 47.4 during the previous corresponding period. The earth temperature this morning was 54.3 compared with 55.6 yesterday. The barometer this morning bad risen to 29.80 inches from 29.65 yesterday. OUTLOOK FAIR The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General situation : An anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea, and pressure is still low to the south-east of New The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Moderate south-west winds, freshening during to-night: a few showers about Banks Peninsula, weather otherwise fair to fine; cold night temperatures, with risk of frosts; day temperatures moderate. Outlook: Fair.
