WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT TINWALD The 17th annual meeting of the Tinwald Women’s Institute was held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday. Mrs Rodd presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs Christie and Mrs Rodd are to be delegates at the Federation meeting in April and Mrs Whiting and Mrs Aldridge will act as Tinwald’s hostesses.

Mrs Watson read the motto for the month. Mrs Rodd then welcomed the visitors, and Mies M. Lill presided for the election of officers. ' The balance sheet was read and showed a sound financial position. This was received and adopted. The report was also adopted.

Mrs Rodd thanked the members and her committee for their help during Cue past year.

Miss Lill congratulated the Women’s Institute on its report and sound financial position.

Mrs Rodd presented Miss Lill with a shoulder spray and bouquet, and also presented a spray to Mrs Aldridge the treasurer, ...and a spray to Mrs O’Shea, the retiring secretary, after which Mrs Christie presented the president, Mrs Rodd with a spray. Mrs Rodd was elected president unopposed. The election of committee resulted: Mesdames A. Aldridge, L. Allen, L. Colville, H. Donaldson, W. Johnstone, H. Jordan, B. MaclCenzie, J. Roberts and J. Taylor. A'vote of thanks was passed to Miss Bayliss and Mies Hopkinson for their assistance at the election. Miss Lill was accorded a vote of thanks. ,

The competitions, ju'dged by Misses M. and 11. Lill resulted: Handkerchief from salt bag, Mrs Watson 1, Mrs Johnstone 2, Mrs Taylor- 3; three onions, Mrs Reddecliffe 1, Mrs Evans 2, Mrs Tarbotton 3; Michaelmas daisy Mrs Jordan 1, Mts Johnstone2, Mrs Robertson 3; best bloom, Mrs Allen 1, Mrs Jordan 2, Mrs Barr and Mrs Colville (equal) 3.

Afternoon tea was served by the committee. *
