NEW ZEALANDERS MAKE RECOVERY SYDNEY, April 17. A howling gale and, torrential showers of rain resulted in high scoring ip the second round of the Ampol £IOOO tournament. W. Bolger. with a. round of 70, took tin 1 lead, four strokes ahead of the Australian open champion, IT. Pickworth. The first round leader, E. Cremin, crashed with 85. A pleasing feature of the play today was the recovery of the two New Zealanders, A. Murray and A. E. Guy. Murray’s 75 (four over par) was the best, round of the day. Guy was round in 70. Although the New Zealanders are unlikely to overtake the leaders, they appear likely to be rewarded for their enterprise in making the trip. It was Murray’s skill with his irons that gave him the best round of the day. Tlis tee and fairway shots were flawless, but. he needed three putts on three greens over the first nine. Guy was rocklike in the gale, hitting long drives into its teeth. His short game has so far not been comparable with his long game. The leading scores are: W. Bolger (N.S.W.) 70-1.49. H. Pickworth (Vic.) 77-103, F. Bolger (N.S.W.) 80-154, Martin Smith (Vic.) 80-154, R. Want (Qsld.) 80-155, (1. Campbell (Vic.) 80155, 11. Cremin (N.S.W.) 85-150. A. Howard (NjS.W.) 70-156, L. Kelly (N.S.W.) SO-15G, D. Cullen (N.S.W.) 79-157, D. Denehv (S.A.) 84-157, K. Nagle (N.S.W.) 81-157, A. Murray (N.Z.) 75-157, A. E. Guy (N.Z.) 70-158.
