BEER NEAR DANCE
FINES AMOUNT TO £39 WARNING BY MAGISTRATE “This type of offence appears to be on the increase, and I am issuing a warning that, in the future, the penalty will be increased,” said Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Ashburton this morning, when fining 13 defendants £3 each on charges of being in possession of beer near a dance at the Radiant Hall on St. Patrick’s Day evening. Numerous bottles of beer and several demijohns were exhibited in the court, these having been seized by the police on the evening in question. It was mentioned that all these were forfeited to the Crown. • The following were each fined £3: Eric Francis Barry, Terence Edmond Bradley, Ronald James Clayton, Norman Ames Currey, Eric Douglas (Mr C. G. de C. Drury), Gerald Farrell, Thomas Noel Fox (Mr Drury), Reginald Thwaites Heseltine, Alister Lindsay Kerslake (Mr Drury), Kelvin Mead (Mr Drury), John Morris Milne, Harry Ward and Richard Kenneth Withell. Costs ranged from 10s ro 12s. '
