ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 1(1. Tire- store sheep entry at the Addington market to-day was 11,250, comprising 4000 lambs and 7250 adult sheep. The quality of the lambs was mixed, with a large proportion backward and late sorts. The best sold well at last week’s rates, but others were as much as Is lower. Top price was 33s for an excellent pen of Romneys from Banks Peninsula. Peninsula ewe lambs made 28s, and a pen from Southland 27s 9d. Top price for wether lambs was 27s Gd for an attractive pen of Romneys from the Cliathams. Good rape lambs made 20s to 245, medium 13s Gd to ISs, and culls down to 10s. Few two-tooth ewes were offered. Every description of ewe met with a keen sale at values Is above those of last week. Top price w'as 40s Gd for a pen of Romneys, and Corriedales made to 40s. The adult sheep included a large proportion of wethers. The demand for good fresh breeding ewes was sound, and for lower quality the market was better. Chatliams ewesmade to 30s and Southland to 295. Best ewes made 25s Gd to 30s, medium 19s Gd to 24s and ordinary down to 7s. Best wethers made to 32s Gd and others from 22s to 275. The fat lamb entry was 2701, the quality being mixed, with few good butchers’ lines forward. For the best there was a steady sale, with . rates from par to a shade easier. Bidding was desultory for lighter sorts, but the export schedule was maintained. Extra prime fat lambs made to 40s, prime 34s Gd to 395, good 29s Gd to 345, medium and light 23s to 295. In the fat sheep entry of GOOO the quality was good. Values at the start were up to last week, but later heavy aethers eased by 3s. Butchers’ ewes held last week’s rates. Freezing buyers operated sparingly at schedule. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 49s Id, prime heavy 38s to 435, prime medium-weight 34s Gd to 37s Gd, ordinary and light 26s to 33s Gd; extra prime maiden ewes to 39s Id, extra prime to 29s Id, prime medium-weight 20s Gd io 265, extra heavy 18s to 24s Gd, medium 17s to 20s, unfinished 10s to lGs. Ashburton sales were: R. G. Gerard (Mt. Hutt), 27 maiden ewes at 29s 7d to 34s 7d. The fat cattle entry of 721 included a large proportion of medium quality cows. Values all round were easier than last week, in some cases as much as 30s. Cows, were hard to sell, even at schedule. Best beef made to 57s Gd, good 42s Gd to 52s Gd, medium 35s to 40s, best cow beef to 36s Gd, secondary to 31s Gd, all per 10011). Extra prime heavy steers made to £27 7s Gd, prime heavy £l9 10s lo £22 10s, prime medium-weight £l7 to £l9, ordinary and light £l4 to £l6 10s; extra prime heifers, to £l7 2s Gd. prime £l2 to £ls, ordinary and light £8 10s to £ll 10s; extra, prime cows to £l7 2s Gd, prime £7 10s to £ll, ordinary and light £0 to £7. The fat pig sale was prolonged by the late arrival of trains. In addition the yarding was large and buyers were cautious. Good quality heavy baconers held last week’s rates, but porkers were easier by 3s to 5s and choppers by £2 to £3. Light porkers made £3 2s Gd to £3 12s Gd, medium £3 14s Gd lo £3 18s Gd, heavy £3 19s Gd to £4, 9s Gd. choppers £5 18s Gd to £ll 8s Gd, light haconers £4 9s Gd lo £4 14s Gd, medium £4 17s Gd lo £5 7s Gd, heaty £5 14s Gd to £6 3s Gd, extra heavy £G 4 9s Gd to £7 4s Gd. The average per lb was 9Jd to lOd.
