FIRST INGLESIDE
SCOTTISH SOCIETY'S FUNCTION A large number of new members were welcomed by the Chieftain (Mr W. Croy) who presided in the absence, through illness, of the Chief (Mr H. McConochie) at the first ingleside of the season held by the Ashburton County Scottish Society in the Radiant Hall last evening. There was a good attendance and an enjoyable programme was presented. Items were given as follows: Songs, Messrs A. Harvey and V. Joyce, Mesdames Iv. G. Fowke and L. Cliff and Miss A. Whiting; elocutionary items, Adele Good ; instrumental items, Messrs R. Sparrow and J. Horsburgh, Messrs D. Wilson (tin whistle) and R. Read (pipes); Seann Triubhais, Joan Parkes; sword dance, Dawn and Joy Rogers ; Sailor’s Hornpipe, Beverley McPherson; Highland Reel, Marie Kelly, Joy Childs, Beverley Twamley and Robert Rogers. The band played selections. Music for dancing was played by Mrs Gordon’s orchestra. Masters of ceremonies were Messrs J. Twamley, G. Chilton and V. Lithgow.
