A poll taken by the United Press* of editors throughout the world shows that they rate the three biggest news stories of 1946 so far as: (1) The Nuremberg verdicts; (2) the Bikini atom bombs tests; (3) the Republican Congressional victory. Th© Australian ranking list of the best 10, was Nuremberg, Bikini, Bern borough’s breakdown, Palestine violence, Heath murder trial; Yoisuki voyage, Republican victory, Indian self-government, Canadian spy ring and Hugh Baillie’s interview with Stalin. Other nations placed the first three stories as follows: —United States, Republican- victory, Nuremberg and the removal .of most of the price controls. European countries: Nuremberg, Baillie’s interview and Bikini. Japan: Bikini, Nuremberg and Republican victory. The Philippines: Nuremberg, Philippine independence and Republican victory.
