LOAN OF £12,500
IMPROVING BOROUGH STREETS DETAILED PROGRAMME Application is to be made by the Ashburton Borough Council 1o the Local Government Loans Board for permission to raise a loan of £12,500 for the carrying out of street improvement and storm-water drainage throughout the borough.
This decision was reached by the council last evening when it adopted a recommendation to that effect by the works committee. When raised, the money will be expended under the following heads: Kerbing and channelling £4400, new' sealing of streets £3845, asphalting footpaths £2255, and storm-water drainage in Trevor’s Road £2OOO. •
A detailed programme of the proposed work, submitted by the committee, was also adopted. The main item? on the list are as follow: New sealing of streets: South Street (East to William Streets), 22 chains (to cost £33o)Rapley Street (Wakanui Road to Alb’ert Street), 13 (£105); Clark Street (from Alford Forest Road), 10 (£150); Brucefield Avenue (Kitchener to King Street), 8 (£6O, half cost to county), William Street (Princes " and Kitchener Streets), 12 (£180); Bridge Street (N.E.
