FINE AND SPRING-LIKE. With the ' sun shining pleasantly from a clear sky, conditions at Ashburton to-day were most pleasant and spring-like. There was a frost of 2.1 degrees this morning. There was little variation in the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded for yesterday and Wednesday. They were 59.2 degrees (59.8) and 41.7 degrees (44.9). The barometer registered 30.17 inches this morning, against 29.99 yesterday. OUTLOOK FAIR. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: General situation: An intense anticyclone is over the Chathams and there is a depression over the Northern Tasman. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows:Moderate winds from a northerly quarter; weather fair, temperatures cold to-night, with some light frosts; day temperatures moderate. Further outlook: Fair. SUN AND MOON.
