THE CLOCK TOWER.

• PETITION CALLED IN. The petition for the retention of the Ashburton Post Office clock and tower, 13 copies of which were sent by the Borough Council to various suitablyplaced establishments in the town, has been called in and will be sent to the Postmaster-General (the Hon. P. C. Webb). The number of signatures obtained was 1094, of which total 391 were obtained by a resident who canvassed the town. It was noticeable that copies left in retail establishments bore many signatures of country people, men and women alike.
