WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

THE ALLENTON MEETING. The Allenton Women’s Institute met yesterday, the president (Mrs J. Southward) presiding over a fair at- y tendance. It was reported that the Institute had invested £lO2 in National Sav- s ings. A second donation of £1 was made to the Mid-Canterbury Federation. Mrs J. McElhinney was nominated for the Mid-Canterbury Executive. It was decided to send a letter of cheer to Mrs L. Cooper, who is in hospital. The annual picnic lias been held over.

Competitions resulted: Bloom, Mrs McElhinney 1; truss, Mrs H. Greaves 1; spike, Mrs C. Hale 1; carnations, Mrs Hooper 1, Mrs Greaves 2, Mrs S. Allan 3; beans, Mrs Hale and Mrs McElhinney (equal) 1, Mrs Harris 3; Christmas cake, Mrs McElhinney 1, j Mrs Beauvais 2, Mrs G. Harris 3. |l The hostesses were Mesdames. H. , Mart ha and McElhinney and Miss R. Douglas.
