OBITUARY.

MR DAVID J. EVANS, 0.8. E. (P.A.) HOKITIKA, This Day. Mr David John Evans, 0.8. E., Westland County Clerk for the last 53 years, died at midnight, after a long illness. Born in Hokitika 78 years ago, lie Avas a notable citizen over a long period and filled many public positions, including president of the Savings Bank, chairman of the Gas Company, secretary of the Patriotic Council and patron of the Returned Services’ Association. He took a keen interest in the Otira tunnel movement and the through road from Westland to Haast and the extension of the railway to Wataroa. Mr Evans leaves three adult daughters.
