The enemy has ceased all organised resistance in all parts of Tunisia, an official statement from Allied headquarters. It is estimated that at least 150,000 Ger-

mans and Italians have been captured in the final phases of the campaign. An earlier message quoting the Algiers’ radio said that demoralised German troops were surrendering en masse in the central sector. German generals captured now total nioe. Of 33,498 prisoners taken by the United States 2nd Corps, 27,398 were Germans. The whole of Cape Bon has been captured and the end of the war in. North Africa will now be a matter of hours. The Allied bombing of Cape Bon ended as the Allied land forces infiltrated over practically all the peninsula. Some enemy bands still unaccounted for have taken refuge in the central mountain ranges of the peninsula, but their position is hopeless.
