BASKETBALL MATCHES.
Sir,—Throughout tho County arc many hundreds of players and supporters of basketball who are interested in the reports of meetings of the executive in Ashburton. Youjr paper has always fostered local sport, so we conclucte that the paucity of business transacted by the parent body is responsible for the meagre information available to your readers. Little information has been given in advance of the matches to be played and no information is available of the positions of teams. It is rumoured that some matches are to be replayed, and that other matches during the season, were just friendly games. Members of country clubs, who are keener than town players, and who rely principally on the “Guardian” for their information, do at least know that on September 21 they' will play for the first tinfle for seven weeks. After that, of course, the summer sports will be in full swing, and the association, will probably be capable of the masterly stroke of declaring the season closed, or they could eivi’n copy the Men’s Hockey Association, which after many weeks of inactivity has allowed the season to close itself. Both of these methods will be equally ‘effective in helping sport to die in this County. I am, etc*., THE GAME’S THE THING.
