HOCKEY.
MEN AND WOMEN. RESULTS OF ANNUAL TOURNEY. Fast open hockey was produced at the Ashburton Domain on Saturday for the annual six-a-side tournament of the Ashburton Women’s Hockey Association and the five-a-side tqurnament of the Ashburton 'Men’s Hockey subAssociation. The grounds were in good order and many of the matches were closely contested. The women’s senior tournament was won by Lowcliffe who beat Tinwald, the leading team in the Ashburton senior competition, while the junior tournament went to Wakanui who beat Methyen by the narrow margin of one goal after the match had gone to three spells. round: Lowcliffe A- 2, Ashburton 0; Methven 82, Methven A 1; Hinds A o, Tinwald B 0; Tinwald A 5, llakaia B 0. Third round : Lowcliffe A 1, Methven B 0; Tinwald A 3,, Hinds A 0. Final: Lowcliffe A 2, Tinwald A 1. The winning team was: E. Dutton, J. Hansen, J. Harris, P. Barnes and G. Ownswortli.
Junior—First round: Hinds A 1, Bale aia B 0- Technical A 5, Ashburton 0. Second round: Technical A 2, Hinds A 0; Wakanui 1, Technical B 0: Metliyen L Bakaia A 0; Lowcliffe 3, Hinds B 0. Third round: Wakanui 1, Technical A 0; Methven 2, Lowcliffe 0. Final: Wakanui 1, Methven 0. The winning team was: M. Amos, L. Amos, H. Oairns, M. Cairns, E. Watson, and N. Ford.
The umpires were Misses M. Money, D. Fowke, O. Bishop, W. T. Corbett and G. Johns. The trophies were! presented by Mrs G. Johns, president of the Ashburton Women’s Hockey Association. Men’s Competition. Senior A Section—Wakanui 2, Baring Square A 1; Wakanui 2, Baring Square B 0; Wakanui 0, Bokeby A 0; Wakanui 2, Bokeby C 0; Baring Square A 1, Baring Square B 0; Bokeby A 3, Baring Square A 1; Baring Square A 1, Bokeby C 0; Bokeby A 4, Baring Square B 0; Bokeby C 1, Baring Square B 0; Bokeby A 1, Bokeby Cl. The section winner was Wakanui with 3£ points.
Senior B Section —Thistle A 1, Ashburton 0; Thistle A 4, Bokeby B 0; Thistle A 7, Bokeby DO; Thistle A 1, Thistle B 0; Thistle A 3, Ashburton B 0; Ashburton A 3, Bokeby B 0; Ashburton A 4, Bokeby D 0; Ashburton A 2, Thistle B 0; Ashburton A 2, Ashburton B 2'; Bokeby B 1, Bokeby D 0; Thistle B 2, Bokeby B 0; Ashburton B 2, Rokeby B 0; Ashburton B 2, Rokeby D 0; Thistle B 1, Ashburton B 0. The winner in this section was Thistle A. Final—Wakanui 2 , Thistle A 1. The teams were evenly matched, and after two five-minute spells the score was one goal each. There was still no further score at the end of another two minutes. A further extension was agreed on, and Wakanui scored the deciding goal in semi-darkness. The members of the winning team were: C. Wilson (captain), A. Anderson, E. Kirkman, T. Bennett, and H. MeCosker. A handicap tournament was run in conjunction with the five-a-side tournament and resulted as follows:—Hustle A (scr.) 16 points, Ashburton A (5) 16, Rokeby A (7) 15. Junior —Ashburton A 2, Ashburton B 0; Baring Square A 1, Baring Square B 0; Ashburton A 1, Thistle A 0; Baring Square A2, Ashburton B 0; Baring Square B 1, Thistle B 0; Thistle A 2, Ashburton B 0; Ashburton A 1, Baring Square A 0; Ashburton B 0, Baring Square B 0; Baring Square A '3, Thistle B 0; Ashburton B 0, Thistle B 0 ; Thistle A 1, Baring Square A 1; Ashburton A 3, Baring Square B 0; Ashburton A 3j- Thistle B 0; Thistle A 3, Thistle 80. The winner of the tournament was Ashburton A who had no points scored against them. The members of the team were: A. Burton, M. Stayt, J. Bell, P. Vincent and C. Finn The umpires were Messrs W. T. Corbett, A. C. Vincent, O. Moore, K. G. Fowke, and H. A. Barnett. Mr C. Bowman presented the medals to the winning teams.
