SWIMMING.
ALLENTON AMATEUR CLUB. YEAR’S ACTIVITIES RECEIVED. "With carnivals well supported, and a large number having been taught to swim during the year, the Allenton Swimming Club’s last season was very successful, it was stated at the annual meeting of the club last evening. The president (Mr H. Rollinson) presided .
The report stated tliaC members had taken part in inter-club carnivals at Ashburton East, Methven and Temuka, and had visited Mayfield for the opening of the new swimming bath there. The lcarn-to-swim campaign had been particularly successful.
The cl mb had been unfortunate in losing two prominent officials. Messrs. W. Hunter and W. E'. Brough, both of whom had moved to other districts. Trophies were won as follows: —Schoolboys, R. Capon; schoolgirls, I. Horsburgh ; Ythan cup (seniors), C. Horsburgh ; Winters road cup (juniors), R. Grant; trophy for most improved swimmer, Dorothy McCrea. A credit balance of £7 6s lOd was shown in the financial statement, compared with one of £l4 9s 8d last year. Election of Officers. The following officers were elected: —Patron. Mr W. J. Sparrow; president, Mr W. James; vice-presidents, Mrs E. Eaden, Messrs. E. C. Bathurst, H. Stevens. J. Gibson, and Mrs D. Horsburgh ; club ‘captain, Mr C. Welch; vice-captain, Miss M. Wilson; secretary, Mr A. Stills; assistant-secre-tary and treasurer, Mr Robert Plunkett; committee, Miss O. Sparrow, Messrs A. Mathieson, C. Horsburgh.
