AMALGAMATED SCHOOL SITE.

Sir,—ln your issue of Friday, the 10tli inst., * you credit me as saying that representatives of the Boards had inspected the two proposed sites and that there were, few in favour of the racecourse site. This report I must flatly contradict as’ I did not comment on either site at the. meeting. I did, however, second a motion that arrangements be made for the two Boards to meet and discuss the question of sites. Far from condemning the racecourse site I am of the opinion that it. is the mode suitable of the two because:— (1) It is a level surface suitable for a playing area ; (2) It is in one block ; (3) It is only two chains further froth the Post Office. The alternative site is cilt by a road ; has the mill creek winding through it, and has several depressions, one of coll siderable depth. In general would be

unsuitable as a playing area without a considerable outlay. v In conclusion it is my opinion that the departmental are to bo congratulated on the choice of sites and I feel it is the duty of the two Boards in view of the present overcrowding and unsatisfactory accommodation to do everything possible to facilitate the erection of a combined school, at the earliest moment. .13. BUCHANAN. [The remarks attributed in the “Guardian” report to Mr Buchanan were made by other speakers during the discussion.—Ed., “Guardan.”]
