GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS. PRTOEST AGAINST BOOTH. The general committee of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association met this afternoon, the president (Mr S. P. Taylor) presiding over a fair attendance. Mr R. J. Mulligan, representative of the Association at the annual meeting of the NeAV Zealand Meat Producers Board, forwarded a comprehensive report of the meeting. It Avas decided to accord Mr Mulligan a vote of thanks for his report. FolloAving the suggestion made by Mr Mulligan in his report it Avas decided to invite a. member of the Now Zealand .Moat Board to be present at the fat lamb competition at Fairfield and address farmers. The Royal Agricultural Society forwarded a. circular describing research into animal health and making several recommendations. The Ashburton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union wrote protesting against the Association’s decision to hold a licensed booth at the ShoAv. As a further step in the stabilisation of cartage rates in the district, the Carriers’ Associations in several areas had at the request of the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, revised the existing price schedules with a view to producing a uniform schedule for adoption by the associations, stated a letter from the Transport Association. A copy of the new schedule of rates Avas foi’Avarded. Mr J. H. Miurliead Avrote protesting against the method of judging in the light horse section at the last shoiv. stating that some of the results seemed to him to be unfair. Mr F. G. Frampton said that the remarks reflected on the decision of the judges. The matter Avas discussed further in committee, and it Avas finally decided to refer it to the Light Horse Committee for consideration. The chairman of the grounds committee (Mr Gregory) said that up to date the sum of £261 had been spent on improvements on the grounds. There Avould be little more expense, he stated, only about £l2 to £l4. General painting Avork had. been done, £2O having been expended for this improvement. He said that he did not favour painting the wholo of the pens, as it Avould not be Avorth the expense. It Avould cost £2l to paint the railings round the ring, he said. The ends of the rails above the posts Avere beginning to rot, and it Avould lie a waste of time and money painting them, added Mr Gregory. It was decided to finish painting the light horse boxes.
