MEETING AT ALLENTON. ADDRESS BY MR A. N. GRIGG. At a meeting of the Ashburton branch of the National Party at Allenton last evening, Mr A. N. Grigg, candidate for Mid-Canterbury, addressed a meeting of 150 on points relating to the present political position. Mr W. Acton presided. Mr Grigg spoke on the Reserve Bank, transport, the Industrial efficiency Act, 'the Primary Producers Marketing Act, compulsory unionism, the housing scheme, and public works. The speaker gave the opinion that Mr Adam Hamilton as a leader was the one, perhaps the only one, who could have welded all the anti-Labour forces into one party. He was a strong man of the highest integrity. Mr Grigg touched on the aims of the National Party. He said that public works schemes should be entered into when times were bad, not when they were good, as they arc at present. They should be used to give employment when work was' short, and the primary producer was not in want of labour for tho farm. Mr lan Johnston proposed a vote of thanks to the speaker. This was carried by acclamation. A women’s committee Avas formed, and the men’s committee increased. WOMEN’S COMMITTEES FORMED. METHVEN, WIN'CHMORE, AND LAU RISTON. A women’s committee of the Ashburton branch of the National Party Avas formed at M/etliA’cn last I riday and the following appointments were made:—President, Mrs E. Sandrey; vice-president, Mrs Green ; secretary, Mrs G. Kelly. Further committees Avere formed at "Win oil more and Lnuriston yesterday, the folloAving being the appointments:— Winchmore Prescient, Mrs J. Bland; secretary. Miss G. Shearer. Lauriston—President, Mrs R. Bebbington ; secretary. Miss E. Lemon. At a meeting at Allenton last e\-en-ing. Mrs I). A. Morgan was appointed eonA’ener for a meeting on Thursday to elect officers for a AA'omcn’s committee.
