(From Our Own Correspondent*.) WATERTON. SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. The Rev. W. W. Avery conducted the Sunday School anniversary service in connection with the Waterton Church on Sunday afternoon. The hymns were from the Sunday School Hymnal, and had been taught to the children by Mr Kermode. Mrs A. S. Hayman sang a solo, and presided at the organ. During the service Iris Pearson was the recipient of a beautiful Bible, having won a place in the recent Circuit Scripture Contest. WILLOWBY. SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC. A large number of teachers, scholars and friehds of the Willowby Methodist Sunday School spent a delightful day at Peel Forest on Saturday, when the annual picnic was held. The first part of the day was spent at Bland’s Wood, and the latter part at Acland’s Bush. An organised hike was held. Portions of both parts of the bush were explored, under the guidance of Mr H. C. B. Withell, of Ealing, who gave an interesting talk on “Trees” during the tour. After tea, cheers were given for Mr Withell and the leaders of the Sunday School. Sweets were provided for the children, and handed round by Mr Lill. Some of the picnic party visited the beautiful church on the Acland estate. Thfc Women's Institute. The monthly meeting of the WillowbyEiffelton Women’s Institute was held in the Willowby Hall. Mrs S. P. Taylor presided, and Mrs Butteriek acted as secretary. Mrs J. R. Lattimore gave an interesting demonstration on tinfoil work. The hostesses were Mesdames G. Bakers and P. Read, and Misses M. and H. Lill. It was decided to hold the open social afternoon on Thursday, December 16. Mrs Ford and Mrs Emery judged the competitions, which resulted: — Specimen embroidery, Mrs J. Lattixnore 1. Largest gooseberries, Mrs H. Crossman 1, Sirs Lattimore 2. Best bloom in garden, Miss Lill 1, Miss D. Taylor 2, Sirs H. Chapman and Miss H. Lill 3 (equal.) LAURISTON. CHURCH SOCIAL EVENING. An enjoyable social evelning was held in the Lauriston Memorial Hall, recently, under the auspices'ef the Lauriston Presbyterian Church* The programme, which was arranged by the Rev. D. B. Ashford and Mrs Ashford, and Mr J. A. Mackie, consisted of games, competitions, musical items, and a one-act play. Slessrs W. Ashford and L. G. Burrowes conducted the games and competitions. Two songs were given by Slisses Marjorie and Gwen Leo (Rakaia), and Miss Ruth Morrison, of Rakaia, also sang two solos. Miss Morrison was the accompanist. In the one-act play the players were Misses. Mary Ashford, Marjorie and Gwen Lee, Messrs W. Ashford, L. G. 'Burrowes, and B. Cromie. STAVELEY. ORANGE LODGE INAUGURATED. 1.P.M., Bro. J. J. HolHnger conducted the inaugural meeting of the L.0.L., 124, Winterslow, on Saturday evening. The lodge opened with a membership of 15, and the following lodges were represented: Ashburton, Hornby, Leeston, Southbridge, Methven and the Ashburton Ladies’ Lodge. Three members were initiated and two rejoined. It was decided to hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month. The following officers have been appointed: G.M., Bro. A. A. C. Lion; . D. Bro. W. Gilmore; secretary. Bro E. C. Totty; F.C., Bro. H. Norman; D.C., Bro. G. Rountree; S.D., Bro. E. Doonan; 1.C., Bro. J. Kidd. On Sunday an impressive church parade of ovei’ 70, led by the Ashburton Pipe Band, was held in the Staveley Presbyterian Church, when the service was conducted by Grand Lodge officers, Bro. J. J. Horrell giving the address.
