DESTRUCTION OF DEER
IMPRACTICABLE SUGGESTIONS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 29. The suggestion that the shooting of deer f.vom aeroplanes would more expeditiously and thoroughly cope with the menace does not find favour with the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry). The Minister, in a. statement to-day, [ said the use of aeroplanes by deerdestruction parties had been considered and was not thought practicable, nor was another suggestion that machinegun fire from an aeroplane would account for thousands of animals in parts of the lower end of the South Island. Mr Parry added that a piano and machine-gun would not be practicable or effective as a rifle in the hands of experienced men. Referring to suggestion for the utilisation, through the markets, of some deer carcases, Mr Parry said worst deer-infected areas were in rough mountainous country, and it was not possible to save a large number of skins. That gave some idea of the impossibility of getting out venison in any quantity.
