THE WEATHER.
DULL AND MISTY. Following a thick mist which, arose about 8 o’clock lash evening, conditions in Ashburton this morning were overcast, with a tendency to a fine drizzle. There was a light south-west wind. Two points of rain were recorded up to 9 o’clock this morning. The maximum temperature yesterday was 71.1 degrees, and the inside minimum last night was 52.7 degrees. The barometer at 9 o’clock this morning had risen to 30.25 inches, compared with 30.17 inches yesterday morning. CONDITIONS IN NOVEMBER. SMALL RAINFALL RECORDED. , One feature of Ashburton weather for November was the small rainfall. Up till to-day, when there was a very light drizzle 1.505 inches had been recorded. This is very much lower than the figures for the corresponding months in 1936 and in 1935, when 6.61 and 4.68 inches respectively were recorded. The heaviest fall was on November 17, when 71 points were recorded. Another heavy fall was on November 19, when 65 points were registered. Since then, the weather had been very fine and sunny, with high temperatures at times. Only one frost was recorded during the month — on, November 18, of 1.6 degrees. Maximum shade temperatures have been high, two temperatures of over 80 degrees being reached: one on November 15, of 81.4 degrees, and one cn November 27, of 87 degrees. On 13 other days during the month the thermometer rose above 70 degrees. The inside minimum temperatures this year ranged from 37.2 degrees on November 10 to 55 degrees on November 14, compared with a. range of from 32.8 degrees to 56.5 degrees last year. The highest barometric reading was 30.25 inches, recorded on November 28 and 30, and the lowest 29.07 inches on November 17. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— An anti-cyclone has continued to cover the Dominion, the centre to-day being located east of the South Island. Pressure is relatively low to the far north. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Uamaru is as follows: Light to moderate variable winds but north-easterlies shortly prevailing. Weather fair to cloudy but scattered showers or misty rain probable in coastal areas. Seas slight to moderate.
