FAIRTON AND THE BOROUGH. DECISION BY HOUSEHOLDERS. Consolidation of the Fairton School with the Ashburton Borough School was decided upon at a meeting of householders of the Fairton-Dromore district, held at Fairton last night There was an attendance of 36, over whom the chairman of the School Committee (Mr J. P. Mowat) presided. Messrs G. Armitage and S. Smith members of the Education Board, were present and explained the proposal, pointing out the benefits the children would derive from it. After a full discussion of the matter, the vote on the question of amalgamation with a school in Ashburton was carried by 20 votes to 16. The motion was moved by Mr J. Price and seconded by Mr J. T. Oram. It was decided that the School Committee become the ’Bus Route Committee, and that the Dromore route be left as run at present. Mr Armitage then referred to the town school to be selected, and said that the request before had been for the Borough School. As the Borough School was the only one with accommodation available it w'as adopted. The change will take place at the beginning of the next school year.

A vote of thanks was passed to the Board members and to the chairman for the able manner in which lie had conducted the meeting.
