DOMINION AWARD.

THE PAINTERS’ DISPUTE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 24. After a little more than a day’s hearing in Conciliation Council in Wellington, complete agreement was reached in the New Zealand painters and decorators’ dispute. The hours of work •are to be 40 a week, worked on the first five days of the week. To prevent work being done at weekends for private individuals at less than the award rates, a special clause was inserted making the payment of double-time rates compulsory for all work done on Saturdays. It will be a breach of the award if any person engages in work on Saturday, Sunday, or any of the specified holidays without first obtaining a permit from the Labour Department. Overtime is to be paid at the same rate as in the existing award; time and a-half for the first four hours, thereafter or between midnight and 6 a.in. double time. The usual statutory holidays are to be observed and overtime is to be paid for work on these days or at week-ends. The rates of wages agreed on were 2s 9d an hour, an increase of 3d. The clause relating to wages will not apply to ticket-writing done by shop assistants in establishments in which they are employed. The wages clause will come into force on December 3, and the award will have a duration of one year.
