ASHBURTON CLUB NOTES. THE COMPETITION MATCHES. (By “ Lead.”) The first match of the season for the Bullock Pennant was played between the Allenton and Ashburton Clubs on the Allenton green on Saturday, the scores being Allenton 89, Ashburton 62. The winners will now play Rakaia, and the winner of that game will play Methven. Two extra rinks also went to Allenton, the seniors winning by 27 to 22 and the colts losing by 29 to 14. . Good entries have been received for all the club competitions: Champion singles 22 entries; champion pairs, 14; club pairs, 15; colts singles, 12; club .rinks, 8 teams. All the competitions, except the club pairs (sudden death) will be on the two-life principle. The draw has already been issued. Liberal time limits have been fixed for the various competitions and it is expected that games should be completed within the times given. Players will have a busy month to get the first two rounds through but with co-operation between players and favourable weather, there should be iio difficulty. The annual Town v. Country match will be played at Christchurch on Saturday, December 4. Ashburton has decided to send feix rinks.
The recent rain has improved the greens and they are both in good order. It has been decided to hold an open pairs tournament on New Year’s Day. This is a popular holiday fixture and it is expected that all the County clubs and some of the city clubs will be well represented. With the two greens available there will be no heed to limit the entries.
