ST. JAMES THEATRE. Dracula! What stark horror does that name vividly recall to memory. . . * but to all of us it also brings to mind the actor-genius who brought this evergreen portrayal of the most sinister of all monsters to the screen —Bela Lugosi. Coming after his recent spate of horror pictures, his latest production, “The Mystery of the Mary Celeste” (showing to-night and at two sessions to-morrow at the St. James Theatre) has been welcomed by Lugosi as giving him an opportunity for a new role in which he can act sincerely without having to be sinister. As Anton Lorenzen, a shanghaied bo’sun—a picture of broken manhood; his left sleeve swinging empty—his spirit crushed —but with a mad craving for revenge smouldering deep down in his half-crazed mind —Lugosi gives one of the most outstanding performances of his career. In addition the “Frame-Up” starring Paul Kelly and Jacqueline Wells will also be screened.
