TWO MEN KILLED

THREE OTHERS INJURED.

AVALANCHE AT HOMER TUNNEL.

SCENE OF PREVfOUS DISASTER,

INVERCARGILL, This Day

The police at Lumsden received word shortly before noon that an avalanche came down over the mouth of the Homer Tunnel, on the Milford Sound highway, at 9.50 this morning, as a result of which two men were killed and three injured. Those killed are:

Mr D. F. Hulse, engineer-in-charge, formerly at Waitaki.

Mr T. W- Smitli, overseer in charge of the tunnel operations.

The seriously injured are Messrs J 9. Loyd 1 , J. Milne and L. S. Kelly.

It was snowing heavily and 13 inches of snow lay in the valley. No warning was possible. A doctor andl police are proceeding to the scene of the fatality. The bodies of the men killed have been recovered, and arrangements are being made to bring the injured to the hospital at Invercargill. The scene of the fatality is the same as on the previous occasion, on July 6, when an avalanche killed one man and Injured seven.
