A BY-ELECTION.
WOMAN ON DRAINAGE BOARD. • ■■ (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, February 18. Labour lost one seat in the byelection to-day for two seats oij the Christchurch Drainage Board. The by-election was held to fill the vacancies caused by the retirement of Messrs T. H. Butterfield and G. H. Winter, who had lost their residential qualh fication. The voting was: Heath cote District. Miss M. Howard, (L.) 530 W. S. Grigg ... 404 Central South-west District. E, H. S. Hamilton ... ... 175 S. M. Clinch (L.) 91 Miss Howard, a daughter of Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., is the first woman to be elected to the Board.
