, In the House of Commons, the First Lord of the Admiralty (Sir Samuel Hoare) announced that arrangements for laying down two new battleships of the 1936 programme were being made, in full accordance with the declared policy of the Government to press on with the naval replacement and new construction programme with all possible speed. It was the intention that the keels should be laid at the earliest ,moment permitted by the Washington Naval Treaty, namely, January, 1937 British Official Wireless.
