AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY.
ESTABLISHMENT IN AUSTRALIA. AIM OF THE GOVERNMENT. (Uiiited Press Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, June 18. The Minister for Defence (Mr Park—hill) in a broadcast address on “Australia Aerial Defence,” said that at present it was difficult to obtain delivery of‘ aeroplanes placed on order in Britain. In time of emergency the possibility of getting aircraft from Britain would be almost negligible. It was the Government’s aim, therefore, to establish the aircraft industry in Australia, and action had been taken to achieve that result in the near fut—ure. COMPANY TO BE FORMED. NOMINAL CAPITAL OF £1,000,000. CANBERRA, June 18. At the invitation of the Commonwealth Government, a syndicate has been formed.- to float a company, with a nominal capital of £1,000,000 for manufacturing aircraft and ae-ro engines in Australia. , The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) stated to—night that the syndicate includes Broken Hill Proprietary, Ltd., Broken Hill Associated Smelters, Ltd., and General MotorsHolden’s, .Ltd. The factory. will be equipped With the most modern plant.
